Call for Submissions

AfriThrive is excited to announce the submission call for the inaugural National “It Takes a Village: African Diaspora Youth Conference,” taking place July 12 – 13, 2024, at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel. The conference will bring together hundreds of people- youth leaders, providers, parents, government officials, media, advocates, and supporters from across the country and globe. 


Deadline for Submissions: April 30, 2024

Notification of Acceptance: End of Mid May – June, 2024

We are seeking dynamic speakers, innovative workshop leaders, and insightful panelists to contribute to our diverse range of conference themes, including but not limited to:

  • Investment Opportunities and Wealth Creation
  • Parenting in 2024 and the U.S. Educational System
  • Navigating the Complex Immigration System
  • Youth Leadership and Empowerment
  • Identity and Mental Well-being
  • Faith and Spirituality in the Diaspora Community
  • Career Navigation for Diasporans

We welcome submissions from academia, professionals, community leaders, providers, and those with lived experiences or expertise in any of the above areas. 

Presentation Format

We encourage you to think creatively about your presentations, design, and format.

To be considered, presentations must:

  • Align with our conference themes.
  • Be interactive, thought-provoking, and action oriented.
  • Allow for audience participation
  • Fit within a 60-minute timeframe, with 40 minutes for presentation and 20 minutes for audience Q&A.
  • Be conducted with no more than three presenters.
  • Be able to be delivered in person at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel July 12-13, 2024.
  • All sessions will be conducted in person.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstracts should be no more than 250 words, clearly outlining the proposed presentation, workshop, or panel discussion topic.
  • Please include a brief biography (100 words) and contact information for the main presenter and  every speaker if panel discussion is proposed..
  • Submissions should align with the conference’s themes and contribute to the overarching goal of supporting the well-being and empowerment of African diaspora families.
  • Incomplete submissions will NOT be reviewed. 
  • A limited number of slots are available for presenters and final selection is at the discretion of AfriThrive. 

Deadline:Proposal Submissions must be received by 11:59 PM ET Friday, April 30, 2024. 

Please submit your abstracts and proposals via email to Selected participants will be notified by May 30th, 2024.

If accepted, presenters will receive free conference registration and are welcome to attend the entire conference, including meals, receptions, and plenary events from July 12-13, 2024. (This offer does not extend to room, board and travel. Please make those on your own.)

After the deadline, presenters will receive further details about their participation.

Speakers will have access to the Conference’s room block at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel at a discounted rate.

Please note: All conference presenters are responsible for all travel-related expenses, including transportation and hotel accommodation. Do not submit a proposal if you cannot accept responsibility for travel-related expenses.
